STATEMENT REGARDING SATURDAY'S CLOSURE DUE TO POSSIBILITY OF SEVERE WEATHER
The Elwood Chamber of Commerce extends an apology to the vendors of the glass festival and the community of Elwood and surrounding areas for the decision to close the Glass Festival at 2:00 p.m. Saturday.
Closing was not an easy decision to make. The decision to close the festival was based on advice and recommendations of the Madison County Emergency Management and the National Weather Service. When they contacted us, they warned us of the potential of severe weather, including high winds, hail, flash flooding, and tornadic activity. No one at the Chamber of Commerce wanted to close the festival.
Employees of the Chamber of Commerce, volunteers from the community, the city, and vendors worked hard to make this festival a reality. This was all taken into consideration when making this decision. However, we ultimately felt that safety of every citizen and vendor was most important. We are fortunate that the predicted weather did not come to fruition in Elwood; however, we understand that people were looking forward to the festival and that they are upset that the closure occurred.
We are planning to resume the festival Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All events scheduled will still occur, weather permitting. We look forward to seeing you Sunday.

SPECIAL MESSAGE FOR GLASS ARTISTS - This year’s festival will re-establish and emphasize its focus on Elwood’s rich glass history and will feature glass artisans who continue to showcase the wonders of the medium. That is why the Festival Planning Committee is inviting glass artists from Indiana and surrounding states to be a part of this year’s festival and to bring their unique glass art and expertise to our event. So, this year, for the 50th annual celebration, we are waiving booth rental fees for all participating glass artists. To download an application, please click the "Glass Festival Application" button above.
